Mastercraft Exteriors Expresses Their Take on Global Warming

"We at Mastercraft Exteriors have never liked the idea of tons and tons of shingles filling up our landfills, so we did some research on how we could recycle them.  We happily discovered that asphalt shingles can be ground up and used to construct roads and patch potholes.  The shingles act as a cushion beneath a layer of gravel or paving stone.  This helps cut noise and dirt from traffic and absorb fuel and oil that leak from vehicles.  They also help make the roadways water permeable, durable, and resistant to water damage from freezing and thawing cycles.  Rest assured that we have taken advantage of this opportunity to extend the life of the shingles!

 

Our proudest green accomplishment has been the creation of a new web-based program that has allowed us to cut paper use by well over 75%.  We now scan all paperwork into electronic format and upload it into our program.  This enables all office staff, managers, and field supervisors to view the paperwork with the click of a button rather than printing multiple copies.  This drastically reduces the use of not only paper, but toner as well.  We used to change the toner in each printer every other week, and now we can’t even remember the last time we had to change any of them!

The rest of our green movements may not be as large of accomplishments, but every little bit counts! Here are a few of them:

 

• We Order only recycled paper products such as paper towels, printer paper, etc.
• We Use both sides of the paper when copying and printing
• We Use Method® (Target sells this) cleaning products
• We Purchase fair-trade organic coffee for our morning pick-me-up (and drink it out of reusable cups)
• We Recycle all the plastic, metal, and paper that would otherwise end up in the waste basket
• We use rechargeable batteries
• We use reusable UPS packages

We would like to thank Mastercraft Exteriors for a job very well done from start to finish. To your individual customers the name Mastercraft is the person or persons you work with directly. In this case, hats off to field supervisor Dewey Berglund! Dewey made our roof replacement adventure a pain-free journey from his initial contact with our insurance company adjuster to negotiation of a fair claim settlement to completion of new roof completion. Throughout this time, Dewey was in almost daily contact with us to answer any questions we had, coordinate schedules for work performance and to just make sure we were comfortable with the process.

Dewey stopped by our home several times during the day our new roof was being completed. He was our guardian overseer including supervision of cleanup. He somehow found the extra time to dedicate to us while also coordinating many claims in Hugo, Minnesota where a tornado had just badly damaged several homes.

The job…completed on time as promised by a professional crew led by Dewey Berglund. Cleanup was extremely thorough. Your crew handled our job as if we were 'family'. The new roof looks great. We are very pleased.

Kudos and an A+ to Dewey and Mastercraft Exteriors. We selected the right contractor and the best field supervisor!

We will not hesitate to recommend the Dewey/Mastercraft team to anyone we know looking to have roofing/siding work done!

Mastercraft Exteriors Keeps Getting Greener

 

How is the company Mastercraft Exteriors even more green? In December of 2008, Richard Spanton Jr, Owner, has actively searched for more ways to green his company. After their cell phones and printers die they recycle them. Seems so simple huh? Every year there are 100's of 1000's of cell phones, printers, computers, etc., thrown in the trash that do not decompose. Mastercraft Exteriors has over 200 printers and at least 150 cell phones, so it is inevitable that one or two a month will go down. There are several programs that they are a part of for the green movement. "2009 is going to be our biggest change for the environment", stated Richard Spanton Jr.
